When I have been depressed, I have struggled to focus on optimism  (even when it sometimes seems like I'm in denial to do so), and in addition to prayer and the support of friends, and the peaceful times others have mentioned (on the deck, taking a walk, Yoga, whatever), I have used written affirmations to help me process positive thoughts through my whole body and mind.  It really does help - you'd be surprised.
